Essential information for your long-distance walk

The idea of the pages in this section is to keep you as safe, sane and serene on the trail.

The information on these pages is essentially a distillation of the advice given in the first few chapters of each of the guide books – though we’ve added to and altered much of the instructions too where we’ve thought necessary.

Most of this guidance is just common sense. But hopefully there will also be some useful nuggets of info that you hadn’t thought of before. The page on taking a dog on the trail may be of particular use to many, as I always struggled to find much advice on this subject on the web.

As with the trail description pages, we’ve opened the comments at the bottom so you can voice your disagreements, confirm my thoughts and make your own suggestions.

If you have any questions about any aspect of your hike that isn’t answered in these pages (or you simply can’t be bothered to read them!), do get in touch and I’ll do my best to help.

Anyway, here are the relevant pages – enjoy!
